PLYMOUTH, WIS. — Sargento Foods, Inc. is expanding Wisconsin production facilities in Plymouth, Hilbert and Kiel and has recently received $3 million in tax credits from the state to assist in the expansion plans.
"My father started Sargento in Wisconsin over 50 years ago," said Lou Gentine, chairman and chief executive officer. "Since then, we have continually chosen to further invest in our cheese businesses here due to Wisconsin’s great employee base, the critical role Wisconsin plays in the global dairy industry and the support made available to Wisconsin businesses for continued investment."
The company plans to add 60,000 square feet to the facility in Kiel and 52,000 square feet to the facility in Hilbert. The Hilbert expansion will allow for a new shipping and receiving dock, new recyclable and non- recyclable materials handling areas, new blast freezing, new frozen storage, new blast chilling and new refrigerated storage.
Collectively, the expansions will create up to 500 new jobs within a five-year period.
