COLUMBIA, MD. — Martek Biosciences and Bimbo Bakeries have introduced Oroweat 9 Grain Bread, the first bread product with life’sDHA, a patented, vegetarian form of DHA omega-3 for brain, eye and heart health.
"This new launch from Bimbo Bakeries demonstrates the broad range of applications for life’sDHA," said David Abramson, president of Martek. "From dairy products like milk and yogurt, to beverages like smoothies and juices, and now, breads with Oroweat 9 Grain Bread, life’sDHA is the ideal DHA source for products that consumers know and use every day."
The use of omega-3 fatty acids in grain-based foods products has been gaining momentum in the United States during the past year. In September, Harvest Time Bread Co., a Boulder, Colo.-based maker of all-natural artisan, organic and whole grain par baked bread and rolls for the retail and food service industry, introduced a line of all-natural and organic 8 grain bread containing omega-3s from Denomega Nutritional Oils.
Denomega is a division of Borregaard Ingredients, Sarpsborg, Norway.
