ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Bridgford Foods Corp., a producer of frozen dough, microwavable sandwiches, dry sausages, processed meats and other convenience food products, sustained a loss of $263,000 in the first quarter ended Jan. 25, down sharply from net income of $40,000 in the same period a year ago.

Net sales in the quarter decreased 3% to $31,319,000, down from $32,314,000 in the first quarter of fiscal 2007.

The company attributed the numbers to extraordinarily high commodity and fuel costs, which have reduced operating margins. The company also is increasing prices to offset some of the expenses.
