Bruegger's sales swing upward

BURLINGTON, VT. — Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc. said system-wide gross sales during the first quarter ended April 16 rose 12% to $56,790,000, up from $50,530,000 in the same period a year ago. On a comparable basis, sales increased at a shade better than 5% at company locations and better than 4% system-wide.
"We are very pleased with these results, which exceeded budget and are especially significant given the current economic environment," said James J. Greco, chief executive officer. "We are committed to consistently providing a memorable guest service experience along with a menu featuring delicious, wholesome offerings and these core attributes drive our financial performance."
During the just ended first quarter Bruegger’s opened six corporate retail bakeries, including its first two airport locations as well as one franchise-operated bakery. The company now operates 278 bakeries in 22 states and the District of Columbia.
