Wendy's same-store sales fall nearly 2%

DUBLIN, OHIO — Same-store sales at Wendy’s International, Inc. fell 1.6% at company-owned stores in the first quarter ended March 30. Franchise restaurant sales fell 0.1% during the same quarter.
The company estimated a negative sales impact of 0.3% because of a calendar shift caused by the Easter holiday falling in the first quarter of 2008.
"We are focused on taking care of our customers and driving further improvements in all areas of our business, said Kerrii Anderson, president and chief executive officer. "We continue to concentrate resources to grow sales with innovative products, new customer service initiatives and advertising that more effectively drives purchase intent and highlights Wendy’s superior quality."
Wendy’s promoted its Stack Attack double cheeseburger in January, focusing on value pricing at 99c, as compared to the introduction of the $2.99 Deluxe Value Meals during the same quarter of the previous year.
