ATLANTA — CP Kelco, a global producer of specialty hydrocolloids, has closed its Knowsley, England, xanthan gum production facility. The company said it is exploring a range of options for the plant, which was a key supplier of food grade xanthan gum to the European and Japanese markets.
"Knowsley is well-equipped for the production of high-quality food and consumer fermentation products," said James Tuan, general manager of Kelco Biospecialties Group. "This asset has generated a great deal of interest and we are currently engaged in a process to select the best opportunity."
Developed by Tate & Lyle P.L.C. in 1978, the Knowsley facility was acquired by Kelco International in 1981.
