CENTENNIAL, COLO. — Penford Food Ingredients and CP Kelco have entered into an agreement regarding Genu Plus Carrageenan. The agreement provides Penford exclusive privilege to sell CP Kelco’s line of Genu Plus Carrageenan to the meat, poultry and seafood industry in the United States.
"The protein industry continues to look for ‘natural’ solutions that offer the functional benefits of modified ingredients to meet increasing consumer demand," said Dan Brennan, sales director for Penford Food Ingredients. "Use of Genu Plus benefits the processor through improved yields and the consumer by offering increased succulence in the finished chicken product from a label-friendly ingredient."
Genu Carrageenans offers gelling and texture agents, and Genu Plus specifically offers functionality in chicken applications such as rotisserie chicken.
"By combining Penford’s application knowledge and technical sales support with CP Kelco’s technology and supply capabilities, we are creating a strong market partnership," said Jane Schulenburg, Americas market manager.
The companies said adding Genu Plus to Penford’s starch line will broaden Penford’s offering of natural and specialty ingredients for protein applications.
