STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — Nestle Nutrition may use the patented probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri from BioGaia AB, a Stockholm-based biotechnology company, in its infant formula in world markets, excluding Japan and Korea, according to an agreement between the two companies announced Aug. 21. Nestle already uses the probiotic in formula products in some European and Asian countries.
"We look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation with Nestle in children’s probiotics and expect volumes to grow and become a significant part of BioGaia’s future business," said Peter Rothschild, president of BioGaia AB. "The company already has an agreement with Nestle Nutrition in the area of health care nutrition."
