ST. PAUL, MINN. — Protient, Inc., St. Paul, is installing whey protein isolate production capacity at its Juda, Wis., dairy facility.

Protient, a division of ABF Ingredients, said the W.P.I. line will be operational Sept. 1. Previously, the plant produced lactose and whey protein concentrate.

Protient said its isolates are suited for bakery products, nutrition bars, ready-to-drink beverages, meat analogs and powdered beverages. The company said the dairy ingredients are helpful in the development of "applications geared for satiety, in response to the obesity epidemic."

Whey protein isolates are available in regular spray dried and agglomerated powders, the company said.

Protient is a global supplier of dairy proteins for food, dairy, health and sports markets. In addition to Wisconsin, Protient operates plants in Missouri and Nebraska.
