Convention to focus on colors, functional ingredients

NEPTUNE, N.J. — The National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems will hold its 91st annual convention Oct. 23-26 at The Resort at Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key, Fla. The event will feature a two-day seminar Oct. 24-25.

On Oct. 24, Stefan Hake of GNT USA Inc. will demonstrate how colors derived from natural sources have developed and how they may be used in a beverage product. Also on Oct. 24, Don Giampetro of iTi Tropicals, Inc. will examine "Superfoods" and Gus Castro of DSM Nutritional Products, Inc. will discuss vitamin and functional ingredient fortification of food products.

On Oct. 25, Maureen Akins of TIC Gums will review hydrocolloids and related processing techniques. Also on Oct. 25, Patrick McNamara of Scarinci & Hollenbeck will cover regulatory and legislative issues and Lawrence Platt of RQA will address best practices in retail management.
