MADISON, WIS. — Kikkoman USA marked the establishment of a new research and development laboratory in University Research Park in Madison on Sept. 9. The laboratory will foster increased collaboration between the company and University of Wisconsin-Madison food science researchers. They will focus on the flavor, functionality and fortification of food products.
The facility will occupy a wet laboratory suite in University Research Park’s MGE Innovation Center. Kikkoman should occupy its new laboratory space early in 2009, said Mark Bugher, University Research Park director.
Yuzaburo Mogi, chairman and chief executive officer of Kikkoman Corp., based in Japan, and Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle attended the Sept. 9 event.
"By working together with food science researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the country’s premier academic research institutions, we expect to deliver exciting new products that will allow Kikkoman to better serve customers in the United States, our most important international market," Mr. Mogi said.
Kikkoman’s U.S. headquarters and a manufacturing plant are in Walworth, Wis.
