OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. announced its global comparable sales increased 8.5% in August and 7.1% year-to-date. The company said system-wide sales for restaurants worldwide increased 14.1% in August, or 10% in constant currencies.
Comparable sales at the Oak Brook-based fast-food chain rose 4.5% in the United States in August, driven by the breakfast menu, the Olympic-themed Southern Style Chicken sandwich and Biscuit promotion and a special focus on beverages.
Meanwhile, European comparable sales rose 11.6%. Countries leading the increase were the U.K., France and Germany. Also in August, McDonald’s said comparable sales increased 10% in its Asian/Pacific, Middle Eastern and African markets.
