Omega-3, probiotic innovation continues

NEW YORK — Food companies are continuing to add omega-3s and probiotics to a wide variety of products from ketchup and salsa to cooking oil and peanut butter, according to Datamonitor’s Productscan Online.
Specifically, Zukay Live Foods has introduced various probiotic foods including a probiotic ketchup with claims of live cultures and fresh raw ingredients in a non-dairy base. Zukay also has introduced a probiotic salsa in mild and hot varieties.
The J.M. Smucker Co. has introduced Crisco Puritan Canola Oil, which is promoted as the first canola oil with omega-3 DHA.
Additionally, Hearts & Minds has introduced an omega-3 peanut butter with olive oil.
