OMAHA — The Scoular Co. on Sept. 18 said it has acquired the assets of McAlister Grain Co., Friars Point, Miss. The acquisition includes grain-handling facilities in Friars Point and Clarksdale in Mississippi and Helena and Old Town in Arkansas. Scoular said facilities, with truck and barge capabilities, will be integrated into the company’s North American grain marketing network. "Scoular is pleased to have an opportunity to expand our business in the Mississippi Delta," said Charles Elsea, Scoular senior vice-president who will oversee the newly acquired facilities. "The purchase of these four facilities was a natural next step to further serve producers and end-users in this area." In addition to its purchase of the four McAlister facilities, Scoular said it is in the process of improving its existing Helena barge-loading operation. The project, to be completed in early 2009, includes adding 610,000 bus of grain storage and increasing truck unloading capacity. The facility hands corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum, and rice.
