Smith named c.e.o. of Kayem Foods, Inc.

CHELSEA, MASS. — Ralph O. Smith has been named president and chief executive officer of Kayem Foods, Inc., a processor of value-added meats. He had previously been chief operating officer of the company. Former president and c.e.o., Ray Monkiewicz, has been named chairman of Kayem’s board of directors.

"As our chief operating officer, Ralph has worked closely with me to help transform Kayem Foods into a national company that develops leading food brands," Mr. Monkiewicz said. "As c.e.o. and president, Ralph will continue to shape the company’s future as we complete our 100th year of business and explore new opportunities for growth."

In his new role, Mr. Smith will continue to oversee development of the company’s growth and expansion, which has included re-engineered operations, development of a new marketing department, revised training and technology programs, and recruitment of a national sales force. Most recently, Mr. Smith led Kayem Foods’ acquisition of seven regional brands from Tyson Foods, Inc. during the spring of 2008.
