Groupe Danone sales up 8% in quarter

PARIS — For the third quarter of 2008, Groupe Danone had sales of €3,846 million ($4,933 million), up 8% from €2,932 million during the same quarter of the previous year.
"With a sales growth of 8.3%, the performance of the group in the third quarter was solid and satisfactory and allows us to confirm our targets for 2008," said Franck Riboud, chairman and chief executive officer. "This performance again reflects the relevance of the business lines we have chosen to be in and the geographic priorities we have set. It also shows the ability of our teams to adapt quickly to changing consumption patterns and markets. Our financial strength, competitive advantages and our unique culture provide us with confidence in our ability to cope with this phase of difficult economic circumstances we have entered."
The Fresh Dairy segment had sales of €2,205 million ($2,827 million), up 8% from €2,076 million during the same quarter of the previous year. The Baby Nutrition segment had sales of €692 million ($887 million), up 13% from €127 million during the same quarter of the previous year.
For the nine months, total sales were €11,537 million ($14,799 million), up 9% from €9,440 million during the same period of the previous year.
