Gold'n Plump launches new natural chicken line

SAINT CLOUD, MINN – Just BARE, a new brand of natural chicken from Gold’n Plump Poultry, a regional chicken processor, has been introduced at most Super Target stores throughout the United States as well as with Hy-Vee and other regional grocery chains.

Unique to the brand is Just BARE’s traceable package. A "Family Farm Code" is printed on each package next to the freshness date code. By entering the three-digit code on-line at, consumers may learn the location of the farm where the chicken was raised.

"This brand is about giving consumers open access to everything they want to know about Just BARE — to provide transparency from the supermarket and the package back to the family farm," said Julie Berling, director of brand strategy and advocacy.

Trayed products are fixed-weight and feature a scannable barcode. Every package of breast fillets weighs and is priced the same, unlike most other chicken products, which are random-weight and priced by the pound, not the package.

Products for the self-service meat case include boneless skinless breast fillets (14 oz), breast tenders (14 oz), boneless skinless thighs (20 oz), drumsticks (20 oz) and whole chicken (3 ½ to 4 lbs). Products are also available for the full-service meat counter.

The transparent, recyclable plastic tray and its clear film lid give consumers a nearly 360-degree view of the chicken inside and is also unique to the market.

Just BARE follows the Animal Welfare Guidelines as established by the National Chicken Council, a Washington-based trade association that represents the industry. Ongoing audits ensure the proper care, management and handling of its chickens.

Bulk-packed offerings from the line are also available to food service operators, a company spokesperson said.

"Items specifically developed for food service are planned for the future," she added. "All cases of bulk-packed products are traceable back to the family farm where they were raised, as well."
