Alfred Schwan retiring from company

MARSHALL, MINN. — Alfred Schwan, chairman of The Schwan Food Co., said he will retire from the company at the end of this year, ending a 44-year career at the company.

Mr. Schwan, 83, has been chairman of the company for the past 15 years. He also was president for two years and chief executive officer for five years following the death of his brother and company founder Marvin Schwan in 1993. Earlier, Alfred Schwan had been the company's director of manufacturing in Salina, Kas., where Schwan’s had a pizza plant.

Earlier this year, Mr. Schwan was inducted into the Frozen Food Hall of Fame by the American Frozen Food Institute and the National Refrigerated and Frozen Foods Association.
