MADRID, SPAIN — Grupo SOS has completed the acquisition of the Bertolli olive oil and vinegar business from London-based Unilever P.L.C. for €630 million ($998 million).
As part of the acquisition, which was first announced in mid-July, Grupo SOS will receive the Italian Maya, Dante and San Giorgio olive oil and seed oil businesses, as well as a Unilever facility in Inveruno, Italy. Unilever said it will keep the Bertolli brand for all other categories, including margarine, pasta sauces and frozen meals.
In all, the combined sales of the acquired businesses totaled approximately €380 million in 2007, Unilever said.
Headquartered in Madrid, Grupo SOS is the second-largest Spanish food company as tracked by Spain’s stock exchange. The company’s brands include Carbonell olive oil, SOS rice, Carbonell table olives, and Procer and Louit vinegars. Earlier this month, Grupo SOS sold its Cuetara biscuit business to Nutrexpa.
