DENVER — Steve Ells, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., announced several changes to the company’s management team, including the promotion of Monty Moran to co-c.e.o. Mr. Moran most recently was Chipotle’s president and chief operating officer since March 2005.
Before joining Chipotle, Mr. Moran was general counsel and c.e.o. of the Denver-based law firm Messner & Reeves, L.L.C.
"Since Monty joined us nearly four years ago, his work in establishing a people culture at Chipotle that rivals our unique food culture has been extraordinary. The board and I have asked him to join me in the c.e.o. role as recognition of his positive impact on Chipotle, and out of a desire to allow the company to benefit more from the strength of his leadership."
Additionally, Mr. Ells said Mark Crumpacker has joined Chipotle as the company’s first chief marketing officer. Most recently he was with Sequence, a brand consulting company he co-founded in San Francisco.
Bill Niman has been named sustainable agriculture adviser. Founder of Niman Ranch, Mr. Niman has been a champion for sustainably raised food since 1971. Niman Ranch has supplied naturally raised pork to Chipotle since 2001.
In addition to the management changes, Chipotle unveiled plans to enter the European market. The company said it plans to open its first London restaurant in late 2009.
