LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND — Swiss dairy processor Emmi has acquired the U.S. cheese processor Roth Kase USA Ltd. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

In January 2006, Emmi purchased a minority stake in Roth Kase USA Ltd. and had been a partner in the development of the company for the past three years. Emmi, which has a division in the U.S. called Emmi (USA), Inc. that is based in Valley Cottage, N.Y., said the transaction will allow it to further expand its presence in the United States and make the United States Emmi’s largest foreign market.

Roth Kase USA Ltd. is a manufacturer of specialty cheeses and has sales of approximately $90 million.

"We feel that Emmi is an ideal partner and will complement our product range very nicely," said Fermo Jaeckle, one of Roth Kase’s founders. "We are confident that our company will flourish with Emmi in the future, thanks to multiple synergies."

Both Mr. Jaeckle and Steve McKean will continue to manage Roth Kase’s business in 2009 and remain on the company’s advisory board, according to Emmi.
