SPARKS, MD. — Robert J. Lawless, chairman of the board of McCormick & Co., Inc., has announced his retirement effective March 25.

"I advised the board of directors of McCormick & Co. that I plan to retire as chairman, effective with the annual meeting," Mr. Lawless said. "This is consistent with the succession plan at the executive level that the board and I put in place over the last several years of my career with McCormick and is also consistent with my own personal wishes."

Mr. Lawless was employed with McCormick for more than 30 years before he retired last January. The company has announced that Alan D. Wilson, president and chief executive officer, will succeed Mr. Lawless as chairman.
