READING, PA. — The Hershey Co. on Feb. 20 closed its Reading facility that for the past 23 years has produced such items as York Peppermint Patties and 5th Avenue Bars.

Hershey said the production lines at the plant are being moved to Monterrey, Mexico, and other facilities in the United States as part of a restructuring first announced in February 2007. At that time, the company said it would eliminate approximately 1,500 jobs and reduce production lines by more than one-third.

The Reading closing will affect 300 jobs, Hershey said.
