Barry Callebaut opens chocolate factory in Mexico

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND — Barry Callebaut AG inaugurated its new chocolate factory in Monterrey, Mexico, on Jan. 15. The expansion allows Barry Callebaut to deliver chocolate to the southern region of the United States, the Mexican market, Central America and South America. The company invested $40 million in the facility, which has annual production capacity of about 100,000 tonnes.
"Our new chocolate factory in Monterrey, Mexico, will enable Barry Callebaut to move closer to its growing customer base of multinational and local food manufacturers in this region," said Patrick De Maeseneire, chief executive officer of Zurich-based Barry Callebaut. "Chocolate confectionery in Mexico is expected to grow on average by 6.5% per year in value terms over the next five years."
