SALINAS, CALIF. — Monterey Gourmet Foods said it will close its Eugene, Ore., facility on Sept. 4 and transfer production of its Emerald Valley Kitchen products to Kent, Wash. The Emerald Valley Kitchen product line includes an organic line of salsas, bean dips and hummus.

Monterey Gourmet said the transition to Kent would allow the company to optimize overall asset utilization and provide customers with more innovative and flexible production runs.

The closing is expected to affect 25 employees.

Emerald Valley Kitchen was acquired by Monterey Gourmet in 2003 and has contributed a minimum of 5% of its profits to ecological and humanitarian projects in the greater Eugene/Portland area since 1984.
