NEW YORK — Robert Amen on Sept. 14 announced he will step down as chairman and chief executive officer of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc., effective Sept. 30. Douglas D. Tough, currently a member of the board of directors at I.F.F. and c.e.o. and managing director of Ansell Ltd., will assume the role of non-executive chairman on Oct. 1, and the positions of chairman and c.e.o. when his contract with his current employer expires no later than the end of first quarter 2010.

I.F.F. said it will rely on a temporary office of the c.e.o. until Mr. Tough’s contract with Ansell Ltd. expires. The temporary office will comprise three current I.F.F. executives: Kevin Berryman, chief financial officer; Nicolas Mirzayantz, group president, Fragrances; and Hernan Vaisman, group president, Flavors. They will report to Mr. Tough in his role as non-executive chairman.

Mr. Tough joined I.F.F.’s board in October 2008. He has been c.e.o. of Australia-based Ansell Ltd. for five years, and prior to that, he had a 17-year career with Cadbury Schweppes P.L.C., where he held a variety of senior positions overseeing consumer products divisions both in the United States and abroad.

"We are very pleased that Doug has agreed to assume the role of chairman and c.e.o.," said Arthur Martinez, leader director for I.F.F. "Doug is a veteran executive who has solid knowledge of I.F.F. and extensive leadership experience in the consumer products space. He will be a tremendous asset to our company as we continue to execute on our growth strategy, build on our strong fundamentals and deliver profitable, sustainable growth."
