Dole Food chairman release nutrition handbook

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIF. — David H. Murdock, chairman of the Dole Food Co., has released his second book, “The Dole Nutrition Handbook: What You Need to Eat and How to Live for a Longer, Healthier Life.”

The book, which Mr. Murdock developed in collaboration with the Dole Nutrition Institute, is billed as a guide to the proper nutrition needed for optimal health in the present and in the future.

“If you want to learn how to lose weight, be healthy and live longer, then you’ve got to read this book,” Mr. Murdock said. “This publication conveys the very latest scientific information from the top minds in our country in a way that will capture the imagination and inspire people to change the way they eat and live.”

The book is divided into three sections:
• “Part I: What You Need to Eat Every Day.” — This section provides guidance on the various macronutrients, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals needed for bodily maintenance and disease prevention.
• “Part II: Total Health from Head to Toe.” — This section includes chapters on what is needed for various aspects of health, ranging from cardiovascular to pregnancy to immunity.
• “Part III: Slim Down, Shape Up with the Dole Diet and Fitness Plan.” — This section illustrates the health risks of excess weight while providing simple, practical tips for getting healthy.
Mr. Murdock earlier published “The Encyclopedia of Foods,” created in partnership with the Mayo Clinic and the University of California, Los Angeles.
