Flowers cuts sodium in Nature's Own Light bread

THOMASVILLE, GA. — Flowers Foods, Inc. has reduced the sodium content in its three Nature’s Own light bread varieties to reflect 25% less sodium than regular enriched honey wheat bread and white bread.
The varieties — Nature’s Own Light Wheat, Nature’s Own Light Honey Wheat and Nature’s Own Light Premium White — were introduced in the late 1980s. The bread varieties contain 40 calories per slice and are considered low in fat and high in fiber.
"Bread is already a fairly low sodium food, but we found we could further reduce the sodium content of our Light breads without compromising taste or quality," said Sherry Harper, director of marketing for Flowers. "Our Nature’s Own Light breads already have a healthy profile and this recipe change makes these breads an even better choice."
Flowers said the new bread retails at the same price as the previous light bread varieties: $2.29 to $2.49.
