SEATTLE — John Culver has been promoted to president of Starbucks Coffee International with responsibility for overseeing operations and business development for all markets outside the United States.

He succeeds Martin Coles, who has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

A seven-year veteran at Starbucks, Mr. Culver most recently was president of global consumer products and food service. Earlier, he held various positions, including general manager of food service and president of Starbucks Coffee Asia Pacific. Before joining Starbucks, he was vice-president of sales for Nestle USA.

Michelle Gass, president of Seattle’s Best Coffee, will take on additional responsibilities as interim president of global consumer products and food service until a permanent president is named.
