LAS VEGAS – Hormel Foods Specialty Products Division introduced an ingredient that combines co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and omega-3 fatty acids at SupplySide West in Las Vegas Oct. 20. A patent-pending delivery platform makes the ingredient shelf stable and water soluble. It is designed for food and beverage applications and has been shown to work in beverage products that require clarity, such as sports drinks.
One gram of the CoQ10/omega-3 ingredient contains 100 mg of two omega-3 fatty acids combined, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and also 50 m of CoQ10.
“Lipid-based ingredients such as CoQ10 and omega-3 fish oils used to be notoriously difficult for incorporating into water-based applications,” said Chet Rao, marketing manager for Hormel Foods Specialty Products, Austin, Minn. “Fortunately the delivery system we use allows us to successfully add these ingredients to a wide range of products, including juices, ready-to-drink beverages, smoothies, sauces and low-fat foods.”
