Michael Brown to president, c.o.o. of Farmland Foods

SMITHFIELD, VA. — Michael E. Brown has been named president and chief operating officer of Kansas City-based Farmland Foods, Inc., a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, Inc. Mr. Brown will be responsible for leading all aspects of the business, including sales and marketing, operations, quality, food safety, finance and accounting, human resources, and procurement. He will report to George H. Richter, president and chief operating officer of the Pork Group.

Mr. Brown previously was president of another Smithfield subsidiary, Armour-Eckrich, L.L.C., since 2008, and he has nearly 30 years of experience in the food industry. Earlier, he held positions of increasing responsibility with Swift and Co., which was eventually acquired by ConAgra Foods, Inc.

Mr. Brown received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri in 1981.
