TULARE, CALIF. – Land O’Lakes plans to halt cheese manufacturing at its plant in Tulare during the latter half of 2010. The company said its recent investment in its butter manufacturing operations in Tulare and declining milk volumes this year were factors in the decision.

“Idling the Tulare cheese facility was a difficult decision that was driven by a variety of factors,” said Jerry Kaminski, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of the company’s Dairy Foods Industrial division.

The company said idling production will affect approximately 80 employees.
