Sun Capital acquires Captain D's

BOCA RATON, FLA. — Sun Capital Partners, Inc. announced that Sagittarius Brands, Inc., one of its affiliates, acquired Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen, the second largest casual seafood chain in the United States.

“We are very pleased to join the family of Sun Capital affiliates, a financial sponsor with deep operating experience in quick-service and fast-casual restaurants,” said David Head, president and chief executive officer of Captain D’s. “With Sun Capital’s support, we will continue to focus on several key improvement initiatives, while staying true to our overall objective of serving our loyal customers a high quality, cooked-to-order seafood meal at a good value.”

Captain D’s opened its first restaurant in 1969 and has since expanded to 539 locations across 25 states and a handful of overseas markets. The chain’s headquarters are in Nashville, Tenn.

Captain D’s joins an affiliated portfolio of a number of other restaurants under Sun Capital, including Boston Market, Fazoli’s Restaurants, Bruegger’s, Friendly's, Garden Fresh, Restaurants Unlimited, Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill and Souper Salad.
