Wild launches vegetable extract blends

LAS VEGAS – Wild Flavors, Inc., Erlanger, Ky., introduced new vegetable extract blends called Vegeceuticals on Oct. 12 at SupplySide West in Las Vegas. They include a red blend that is standardized to anthocyanin content and an orange blend that is standardized to beta carotene content. Both blends are available in liquid and dry form.
Potential beverage applications include enhanced waters, juices, functional drinks, teas, dry beverage mixes and carbonated drinks. Other potential applications include baked foods, sauces, dressings, snacks, confections, yogurts, frozen desserts and nutritional bars.
The Vegeceuticals are clean tasting, soluble, visually appealing and heat and light stable, according to Wild Flavors. Each blend has been tested via CAP-e (cell-based antioxidant protection in erythrocytes). The testing measures the antioxidant potential of products, whether they are capable of protecting living cells from oxidative damage. Each blend also has been tested for oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC).
