DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Sara Lee Corp. has completed its acquisition of Aidells Sausage Co., the San Francisco-based premium meats business. The $87 million transaction originally was announced on May 5.
“Aidells’ passion for making great-tasting, natural and organic sausages has attracted a loyal consumer following and shaped a truly premium brand,” said CJ Fraleigh, chief executive officer, Sara Lee North America. “Adding Aidells’ great products and talented team of employees to our organization will expand Sara Lee’s presence in the premium meats category and help us to drive even greater innovation.”
Sara Lee said the acquisition also expands its presence into the organic and natural meats segments and increases its coverage of fast-growing retail channels, such as club stores and organic grocers.
Started 25 years ago, Aidells Sausage Co. is known for the unique flavor profiles of its products. Dinner sausage flavors, for example, include habanero and green chile, mango, pineapple and bacon, portabello mushroom, spinach and feta, and chicken and apple.
