Trademark signifies sustainable palm oil

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil has released a new trademark that will allow producers of household products to show their products include sustainable palm oil. The R.S.P.O. trademark is being registered in more than 60 countries.

Members of the R.S.P.O. may use the trademark logo on-pack and in communication about products that contain palm-derived ingredients sourced in compliance with R.S.P.O. standards. Some household products that potentially may use the logo include margarine, cookies, chocolate, soap and cosmetics.

“This is a milestone moment in the history of the R.S.P.O. and the palm oil industry at large,” said Darrel Webber, secretary general of the R.S.P.O. “The trademark will soon make it possible for consumers to make a well-informed choice for products containing sustainable palm oil. This would boost global demand, which is important in view of the remarkable growth in the production of certified sustainable palm oil by growers in Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, West Africa, South America, etc.”

The R.S.P.O, a not-for-profit association, unites stakeholders throughout the palm oil industry to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.
