F.M.I. hires new director of food safety programs

ARLINGTON, VA. — Terry Levee has joined the Food Marketing Institute as director of food safety programs. Mr. Levee will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and activities geared toward helping retail and wholesale food companies meet food safety requirements. He will report to Hilary Thesmar, Ph.D., R.D., F.M.I.’s vice-president of food safety programs.

“In addition to Terry’s 25 years of service in the food safety and quality assurance sector, he was also an active member of F.M.I.’s Food Protection Committee,” said Leslie G. Sarasin, president and chief executive officer at the F.M.I. “He will help ensure our food safety efforts have a practical grounding of utmost importance to our members.”

Mr. Levee previously was director of quality assurance at Giant Food/Ahold USA, where he monitored companywide food safety performance to ensure all practices met Ahold, Giant, local, state, county and federal food safety standards and regulations. Prior to working at Giant, he worked for 19 years at Winn-Dixie as its technical, scientific and regulatory expert for all food safety and retail quality assurance issues and programs.
