Bonduelle Group to acquire some Allens assets

 MONTREAL – Bonduelle North America, a business unit of the Bonduelle Group, has entered into an agreement to acquire four Allens, Inc. frozen vegetable processing operations, the Chili Ripe and Garden Classic brands as well as the right to use the Allens and Veg-All brand names for a period of 18 months. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The frozen vegetable facilities to be acquired are located in Bergen, N.Y., Oakfield, N.Y., Brockport, N.Y. and Fairwater, Wis. Allens will continue to own and operate its two Montezuma, Ga., facilities following the transaction. The operations Allens will retain specialize in the production of frozen breaded vegetable products and southern-style frozen vegetables.

Based in Villeneuve d’Ascq, France, The Bonduelle Group operates 42 production facilities in Western Europe, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Canada and Brazil. It specializes in prepared vegetables and has annual sales of €1,726 million ($2,272 million), according to the company. This is the company’s first acquisition in the United States.

Rick Allen, president and chief executive officer of Allens, Inc., said the company is renewing its focus on its core business.

“With this renewed concentration, we anticipate greater growth, more innovation and even better customer service and product quality,” he said. “We're excited about what this will mean to the marketplace and to our customers and partners, overall.”
