DALLAS — Corner Bakery Cafe has signed an agreement with Cafe Foods, Inc. to open five Corner Bakery Cafe locations in Kansas City over the next five years, the first of which is scheduled to open in Overland Park, Kas., in early 2013.

Cafe Foods, Inc. is managed by local partners Frank Westermajer, Steven Barrett, Ronald Damiana, and Wayne Glasser. The group currently owns and operates 31 Hardee’s franchised restaurants through another company, Westar Foods/West Partners, Inc.

“I’m confident that Corner Bakery Cafe will thrive in Kansas City,” Mr. Westermajer said. “When you consider the young, professional and active culture throughout this area, I truly believe Corner Bakery Cafe is a perfect match.”

Corner Bakery Cafe menu includes hot breakfasts, signature paninis, handcrafted salads, sandwiches and sweet goods.

“As we grow our brand portfolio and look to emerge in new markets, there are a lot of factors to consider,” said Mike Hislop, chief executive officer of Corner Bakery Cafe. “In terms of demographics, traffic, accessibility, and marketability, Kansas City is a home run on all fronts.”

In addition to the Kansas City market, Corner Bakery Cafe operates in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
