Soft drink prices vary nationwide

BOSTON — Restaurant patrons pay higher prices for soft drinks, depending on their locale, per a new study of casual dining establishments published by Intellaprice. Dallas diners, for example, pay about $2.10 for a soft drink, while New Yorkers pay an average of $2.53.
The study also found that within the same market, soft drink prices vary by location. In New York soft drink prices differed by up to $2, depending on the neighborhood.
"In the New York market, for example, a soda can cost consumers anywhere from $1.99 to $3.99," said Leslie Kerr, president. "If you want a bargain, don’t go out to eat in Times Square."
In lower cost markets, the price range typically was narrower. Prices varied just 60c for soft drinks in Cleveland.
The study also found that soft drink refills were virtually always free for restaurants and provided the best value perception among patrons.
