Munoz to lead Sargento product development

PLYMOUTH, WIS. — Sargento Foods Inc. has hired Dorene Munoz as a senior research scientist. Her job responsibilities will include developing value-added cheese products and researching new formulas and technologies to benefit the category.

"Food science and engineering are at the heart of innovation at Sargento and Dorene is a wonderful asset," said Lou Gentine, chief executive officer of Sargento. "Her understanding and experience in the industry will be of great use here at Sargento, elevating the products for consumers as a whole."

Prior to joining Sargento, Ms. Munoz worked as an engineer for Kraft Foods Inc. for 3-1/2 years. She is currently a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, a nonprofit scientific society whose members work in food science, technology, and related professions in industry, academia and government.

Ms. Munoz received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Founded in 1953 in Plymouth, Wis., Sargento is a leading manufacturer, packager and marketer of natural shredded, sliced and snack cheeses, cheese appetizers, ingredients and sauces. Sargento is owned and operated by the Gentine family and has net sales in excess of $500 million.
