CoolBrands sustains loss in second quarter

TORONTO — CoolBrands International, Inc. sustained a loss of $7,952,000 in the second quarter ended Feb. 28, which compared with a loss of $8,077,000 for the same period last year.
Net sales for the quarter rose 14% to $79,196,000, up from $69,556,000 in the same period last year.
During the quarter, the company relaunched its two highest volume brands after revamping them, said David J. Stein, president, co-chairman and chief executive officer of CoolBrands. Breyers Fruit on the Bottom yogurt now boasts a creamier texture and all-natural ingredients while Breyers Light yogurt now contains enhanced probiotics.
Mr. Stein also said the company is entering its peak season with strong new offerings in the frozen dessert products category, including new Godiva ice cream, Yoplait Frozen Yogurt & Cereal and Disney frozen snacks.
