COLUMBIA, MD. — Martek Biosciences Corp. and Breyers Yogurt Co. have reached an agreement through which Breyers will buy all of its DHA omega-3 needs from Martek for products in the U.S. and other territories.
Breyers is a subsidiary of Health Food Holdings — a management holding company focused on natural and organic products.
"DHA is an ingredient that has been shown to provide important brain, eye and heart health benefits across the lifecycle and we are looking forward to making this nutrient more available to U.S. families," said Chuck Marcy, president and chief executive officer of Healthy Food Holdings.
The agreement is for 15 years, and Breyers will print the life’sDHA logo on all packaging of applicable products, and the company will include the logo in marketing, advertising and promotional materials.
"Martek finds it rewarding to partner with an innovator in the healthy foods category and we look forward to working with Breyers Yogurt Co. to make DHA, an important nutrient throughout the lifecycle, more available to consumers," said Steve Dubin, chief executive officer of Martek Biosciences.
Martek has similar agreements with Dean Foods Co. and General Mills, Inc.
