June egg product output down 2% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in June was 225,170,000 lbs, down 2% from a year ago and down 3% from May, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).

June production of edible whole eggs was 143,091,000 lbs, down 1% from June 2006, liquid whites 54,357,000 lbs, down 1%, and liquid yolks 27,722,000 lbs, down 9%.

Shell eggs broken in June totaled 171,118,000 dozen, down 3% from June 2006 and May 2007, the U.S.D.A. said.

For the January-June period of 2007, shell eggs broken totaled 981,511,000 dozen, down 3% from the same period in 2006, the U.S.D.A. said. Edible liquid whole egg production for the period was 820,621,000 lbs, down 1% from last year, whites 305,655,000 lbs, down 2%, and yolks 163,327,000 lbs, down 5%. Production of inedible liquid was 114,418,000 lbs, up 2% from a year ago.
