LEICESTERSHIRE, U.K. — Long Clawson Dairy Ltd. plans to acquire the Stilton and specialty cheese business of Dairy Crest Group P.L.C., Surrey, for approximately £3.5 million ($6.63 million). The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of August.

"This disposal is in line with our strategy to focus future cheese activities on developing our branded and premium retailer branded products," said Mark Allen, chief executive of Dairy Crest. "This includes Cathedral City, the U.K.’s biggest cheddar brand worth £170 million at retail value. After careful consideration we felt that the best option available to our Stilton business was a sale to Long Clawson."
