HOUSTON — Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc., a Nestle S.A. brand, will close its Houston ice cream production facility in April 2009. Production will be shifted to four other Dreyer’s facilities in Bakersfield and Tulare, Calif., Laurel, Md., and Fort Wayne, Ind., according to the company.
The Houston plant produces ice cream for both retailers and food service operators. The closing will eliminate 168 manufacturing positions. The company plans to keep 115 sales, distribution and support employees in Houston after the plant closes.
