LAVAL, FRANCE — The Lactalis Group has said it is interested in acquiring Yoplait SAS, which is 50% held by the private equity firm PAI Partners and the French dairy cooperative Sodiaal. Pai has said it would like to sell its stake in the yogurt manufacturer.
Lactalis reportedly has bid €1.4 billion ($1.9 billion) to acquire the company. Lactalis said it will only go ahead with an investment in Yoplait if it may acquire a majority stake in the company. The company did say it is willing to involve Sodiaal in Yoplait’s development, especially brand management.
“Yoplait’s products fit perfectly with Lactalis Group’s entire product range,” the company said. “Lactalis Group’s development of its ultra fresh business since 2005 has enabled it to win significant market share in the dairy dessert sector. Yoplait’s fruit yogurts and drinking yogurts would bolster Lactalis Group’s offering while generating natural synergies between both companies. As such, the new group would be able to offer a complete range of fresh products for global distribution.”
