Dean Foods reformulates chocolate milk

DALLAS — The Dean Foods Co. has reformulated its chocolate milk to reduce the amount of calories per serving by 10% to 15% and the amount of sugar by 20% to 25%. The reformulation project is across all of the company’s brands.

“Our new, 150-calorie flavored milk products satisfy kids, but avoid the unnecessary sugar and calories that moms worry about,” said Andrea Carrothers, a registered dietitian and nutrition communications manager for Dean Foods. “With the new formula, Dean Foods chocolate milk is an excellent option after school or on the go and certainly beats sugary sports drinks and carbonated sodas.”

In addition to having 150 calories per serving, the reformulated flavored milk also has 22 grams of sugar per serving. A fat-free variety is also available, according to the company.
