GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Meijer retail chain has acquired the dairy processing assets of Bareman’s Dairy in Holland, Mich. Renamed the Purple Cow Creamery, Meijer plans to process white and chocolate milk in gallon and half-gallon sizes once facility renovations are complete.

“This is an exciting day for our company," said Hank Meijer, co-chairman and chief executive officer. “As Meijer continues to grow, it’s crucial we invest in the operations that will help us keep our promise of higher standards and lower prices to our customers. Expanding into dairy operations will do just that.”

Meijer said the company will invest $8 million to expand the Bareman facility.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed and it is expected to be finalized by April 1.
