Salmonella outbreak nears 1,000

WASHINGTON — The number of individuals affected by the nation’s outbreak of Salmonella continues to grow. According to a July 5 update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of people infected with Salmonella saintpaul has grown to 943, up from 756 reported on June 27.
The C.D.C. said at least 130 people have been hospitalized to date. In addition, the death of a man in his eighties in Texas has been associated with the outbreak.
According to a July 5 article in The Wall Street Journal, the probe has shifted from tomatoes to other ingredients used to make salsa, including jalapeno peppers, cilantro and Serrano peppers.
